Anxiety Series: #2 Philippians 4:6,7 - Part 1

I know I started the last one off with this verse, but I would like to look a little deeper into this, wouldn't you? This verse is very clear and quite honestly a great cornerstone to going forward on what God has for us as far as anxiety is concerned.

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (NKJV) Philippians 4:6,7

(v. 7 NIV) And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

OH how I love these verses. To be honest though, there is very little of the Bible I don't love, and usually the reason I "don't" is because I don't understand, don't fully comprehend, don't like what it's telling me (yeah brutal honesty there)... These verses though have gotten me through some really rough days as a Christian/mom/wife/Christian cancer warrior.

These verses are a powerful tool on those really tough days. Even without looking into the meaning more, this verse has done just that. Like with anything dealing with God, as you begin to see more, you start to fully get a view of the vast greatness to his plans.

I am NOT a great and wise theologian, so please know this won't be what they would bring, I do fully encourage you to grab some good commentaries and take the bit I give, and dive DEEP into God's word.

For now though, you are kinda stuck with me to get you started.

I would ask for you to take a minute to just sit and pray on the verses above and think on just a couple bullet points;

  • what do these verses mean to you?

  • pray for God to open these verses up to you and for you in ways you haven't seen before.

How do these verses sit with you? There are people I talk with that these verses frustrate them because they never seem to be able to live up to the expectation set in the first few words of v.6.

There are people that these make them long for something they feel they will never see in their life. Some, like me, are filled with hope and joy knowing God is calling to walk out on promises.

Some find these verses to just be verses, not really applicable to them, void of feelings in and towards this verse. None of these is wrong, none right, we all enter into God's word in different times, places, and seasons which is awesome because the word is applicable ALL those times. I love that you can read, reread and reread again and each time there is something new.
